Enterance examinations

Entrance Examinations are held as follows:

Full-time division:

The first weekend of June
Saturday – 1st grade
Sunday – senior grades

Part-time division: The second Saturday of June

Applications for the academic year must be submitted by the stated deadline for your chosen division:

Full-time division: First Friday of June
Part-time division: Second Friday of June


Children enrolling to the 1st grade take the tests of general (school maturity) and artistic preparation, as well as tests of aptitude for the chosen specialisation.

The criteria of admission:

Music Department – aural awareness, i.e. your ability to understand and identify musical sounds and patterns. This will include an ear test, mainly through singing, and will include pitching intervals, short melodies, answering phrases, rhythms and coordination.

musicality, i.e. we look for natural 'spark' and spontaneity.

musical personality and potential, i.e. we look for strength of character, dedication, enthusiasm, individuality and musical potential

Fine Arts Department – capability of rendering the environment articulately, visual-chromatic, volumentric-spatial perception

Ballet Department - body proportions, shape of legs, stretching, instep, step, jump, elasticity, health state, scenic appearance, rhythmic, musicality, coordination

Pupils over 7 and under 19 are eligible for senior grades if they fulfil a certain grade requirements of age and general academic skills, and specific requirements for artistic training. They take the general education tests and the examinations of the chosen specialization.
Entrance examination requirements according to chosen speciality

Music Department – Principle instrument and second instrument (compulsory piano), solfeggio, music theory (for Grade 9) or harmony (for Grade 10, 11 or 12)

The Principle Instrument Audition lasts 15-30 minutes with the Head of the relevant Instrumental Department. You are asked to prepare three (for pianoforte) or two (for other instruments) contrasting pieces of music which best demonstrate your current musical ability on your principal instrument. In the audition, we look for the following qualities:

musicianship - your ability to deal fluently with practical music issues (key, rhythm, dynamics and other aspects of interpretation).
creativity / musicality - we look for natural 'spark' and spontaneity.
technique - your instrumental skills including awareness of quality of sound, intonation and especially rhythmic precision. You may also be asked to play scales at the appropriate level 
literacy - your ability to sight-read (a short piece may be given) and your ability to understand and discuss music – we may ask you about your audition programme.
musical personality and potential - we highly value these qualities. We look for strength of character, dedication, enthusiasm, individuality and musical potential.
The solfeggio, music theory, harmony examine your ability to understand and identify musical sounds and patterns. This will include an ear test, mainly through singing, and will include pitching intervals, short melodies, answering phrases, rhythms and simple chord recognition.
The major second instrument at our School is compulsory piano. You are asked to prepare two pieces of music, i.e. you may choose from polyphony, sonata, sonatina or variation and from étude or piece 
Those whose principle study is choral conducting take the following exams:
Solfeggio (music theory or harmony, if applicable), conducting, compulsory piano and singing
